Short Story

Rotaract Tegucigalpa Kaputzihil

What if Education in Honduras’ most deprived areas is empowered in a total new way? What if we wore our own locally made shoes to school? What if all dreams were possible after all?

Description:

Shoes are a requirement for children to attend school, and they also play an important role in preventing soil transmitted diseases, protecting children from injuries impacting foot health and overall health.

Problem:

Children attending Government Schools in Honduras are from very poor families and cannot even afford a pair of school shoes for their children.

Solution:

Collect funds from individuals, corporate bodies, organizations, etc. to provide shoes for low-income school children. Though shoes alone do not solve problems they face, but we all agree that it helps children build their self-esteem and give hope. A pair of shoes will allow children to walk long distances to attend school, improve their performance, will ensure a child’s feet are protected and aid in overall health, and it will be less likely for a child to skip classes.
Also, the funds are invested in the local shoe industry thereby creating employment in the sector. In the end, education is empowered as well as the Honduran shoe industry.
